Problem

You installed 3DE4 under Linux or Mac OS X for the first time. When you try to determine the "System ID" number of your system, an error window "Can't connect to license server software ("flcd4") on host ..." opens up. When started from a shell the following error message is printed out:

flcd4 v1.0b2: (c) 2009 Science-D-Visions, Germanyflcd4: Install directory: ...Tue Jul 28 15:53:37 2009 - flcd4: Error #4, please start as "root"!Tue Jul 28 15:53:37 2009 - flcd4: shutdown...

Solution

Under Unix, 3DE4's license server demon software "flcd4" has to be started as "root" at least once, in order to finish the installation procedure:

• open up a shell
• login as root using "su"
• run flcd4: "3de4 install directory/bin/flcd4"
