Solution:

If you are not sitting in front of the machine of interest:

• remotely login to those machine which's "System ID" number you like to find out
• run 3DE4's license server demon software flcd4(found in 3de4 install dir/bin/)
• run the 3DE4 executable (found in 3de4 install dir/bin/) from any client machine that has a mouse & monitor attached
• wait until 3DE4's License Manager Window opens up (if a 3DE4 Main Window opens up instead, select Main Window->Options->Manage Licenses)
• enter the name of the (license server) machine which's "System ID" number you like to find out
• press the button "Rescan"
• press the button "Show System ID": a small window opens which shows the desired "System ID"
